We’ve been talking about following Jesus this year – kissing yes-itis, people pleasing, and the ways of this world goodbye and following Christ into fuller life.
A couple weeks ago we looked at what following actually looks like, and one of the pieces we talked about is getting close to God.
As most of us know, it’s possible to go through life calling our self a Christian without ever actually following Jesus.
But if we want to actually follow Christ, we have to get close. We have to know Him for the Lord and Savior He is, and we have to be close enough to Him to hear His voice as He leads us.
Not just that, but we have to get even closer, asking Him to fill us with His Holy Spirit so that when it comes to God’s heart and our heart there is virtually no distinction. Christ is in us and we are in Christ. (See John 15)
Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me. – John 15:4 (NLT)
How do we do that? We’ll talk about that as we go, because it’s a never ending process of laying down our lives so that we may live. And there’s no one way to do it other to make Jesus our Savior and to discover how much He really loves us.
But how do we do that in one post? So instead, we’ll let that roll around in our hearts and minds, we’ll ask Him in, and we’ll take steps together in community to encourage each other. And we’ll know that God is at work and He is good.
I hope you’ll share in the journey with us.
