Dose of hope: John 8:12

Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, "I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won't have to walk in darkness, because you have the light that leads to life." - John 8:12 #dosesofhope (printable memory verse at the link)

Last week Courtney brought up John 8:12 in connection with our dose of hope from Matthew 5:14a, 16. In short, Christ is the ultimate light of the world (John 8:12), and we are the light of the world when we allow Christ to work (shine light) through us (Matthew 5:14-16).  It was a great connection, so I thought it was only appropriate to meditate on that verse this week.

  1. I feel so honored to be mentioned by name on Gospel Girls! And also that my rambling musings on the verses you post are not completely off base 🙂 . This week, it’s 2 Corinthians 4:6-7 that comes to mind:

For God, who said, “Let there be light in the darkness,” has made us understand that this light is the brightness of the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ. But this precious treasure—this light and power that now shine within us—is held in perishable containers, that is, in our weak bodies. So everyone can see that our glorious power is from God and is not our own. 2 Cor 4:6-7 NLT

This seems like the perfect passage to join both Matthew 5:14-16 with John 8:12. And I love that it says it’s not just light but also power that shines within us. God, who made Light at the beginning of time, who IS Himself light, resides in our weak and perishable bodies so that He can light up the whole world through us. Now *that* is a serious dose of hope!
