Today’s Dose of Hope

Today I’m stuck at home with a cold. Well, viral pharyngitis to be exact. Which basically means every time I try to speak I sound like a really, really quiet bullfrog.  (Go bullfrogs!) In other words, I have no voice.

But I still have my keyboard! And a teensy bit of energy this afternoon to share with all of you before I curl back up on the couch and follow my Dr.’s orders to sleep as much as humanly possible. So I figured now that I’m here, why not pull out the big guns and post a verse that really gets to the heart of this hope thing.

But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by His grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. – Titus 3:4-7

I wrote this last week, and I think it goes along nicely with this verse.

It took me years to notice that the Bible is one story… Of hope… Told to us by God… So that we can live with hope. That at the end of the day, the message of the Bible – God’s written revelation to us of His goodness mercy, love, power, and forgiveness – is that we can live with hope.

Because God loves us. Which is of course why Jesus died for our sins. Jesus wins. And when we accept His love and forgiveness, we win too. Against whatever it is that we’re facing. No matter what tries to make us feel otherwise.

God is bigger.
